IN A MESS: Thieves smashed the glass panel of the Women and Youth Sections office. Documents can be seen strewn over the floor.

SIBU: SUPP Sibu Branch office in Kampung Dato Road was a mess when thieves broke in again and ransacked documents kept in various sections.

However, it is understood that no valuables were stolen.

Its Bumiputera Unit head, Andrew Shilling, told police that a cleaner discovered the break-in, which could be politically motivated, at about 7.45am yesterday.

“Computers and valuables were not stolen but we will check if there are documents missing,” he said, adding that the last break-in was on Nov 26 last year.

The party’s branch rubber stamp was stolen in the first burglary but so far there has not been any report of false letters or documents bearing the stamp of the branch.

The intruders ransacked two general offices, an accountant’s room, a small room, his office, as well as the office of the   Women and Youth Sections.

A petty cash box in the accountant’s room was prised open but no money or valuables were placed inside.

The thieves had apparently tried in vain to open a bigger safe in another room.

Police believed the intruders had entered the premises from a window of the conference room.

The cleaner said she found the door of the conference room opened when she arrived.

“I was shaken upon seeing the ransacked documents and the shattered glass panel at the Women and Youth Section office,” she said.

The cleaner added that an elderly worker had arrived at the office earlier at around 7am but he was not aware of the break-in.

“He left after bringing a newspaper from the ground floor to the first floor office and switched on the lights.”
