SEMPORNA: Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has urged federal and state civil service officers and staff to remain fully committed in implementing government policies and initiatives.

He said their commitment was  vital in ensuring that the country continued to develop and remain competitive in tandem with development at the global level and ensure the well-being of the people.

“The contribution of civil servants at all levels is necessary to realise government policies.

“If the government delivery system is stifled, the people cannot enjoy the benefits of the development programmes,” he said.

Shafie, who is an Umno vice-president and the Semporna MP, was addressing a gathering of civil servants and outstanding students of the Semporna Risda College here on Saturday night.

He said the failure of civil servants to improve the delivery system would hamper Malaysia’s determination to remain competitive at the international level.

The objectives and targets of the various policies being implemented under the Government Transformation Programme and economic initiatives introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak were clear, but required the support of civil servants for them to be realised, he said.

Praising the performance and contribution of civil servants in drawing up and implementing government policies in 2012, Shafie called on them to remain committed.

At the event, he presented certificates in computer systems engineering skills to the first batch of 25 students of the Semporna Risda College and offer letters to 60 new students to pursue courses at the college. — Bernama
