SEMPORNA: Police have classified the death of a six-year-old girl whose body was found floating in a drum of water at Kampung Salimbangun here as murder.
Semporna police chief DSP Mohd Firdaus Francis Abdullah said police investigation showed there were injuries sustained on the right side of the victim’s head believed caused by a hard object.
“Police are still waiting for reports from pathologies to determine the actual cause of the girl’s death,” he said yesterday.
Mohd Firdaus said police would carry out a thorough investigation, including taking statements from a couple of individuals, as well as members of the victim’s family.
“No arrest has been made at the moment as investigation is still ongoing,” he added.
The body of Nur Effa Sahira Ringkasan was found floating in a drum of water near a farm, about 200 meters away from her home at Kampung Salimbangun.
Nur Effa was reported missing on December 31, 2012 before her body was found on January 4.
