IIB to attract more world-class educational institutions to EduCity

JOHOR BAHARU: Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) will attract more world class institutions of education to EduCity, Nusajaya, said its president and chief executive officer Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim.

Since its establishment five years ago EduCity has managed to draw 11 such institutions, making it the sole multi-varsity campus in Southeast Asia, he elaborated.

“IIB will select genuinely qualified institutions which have a good reputation,” he told reporters after the ground breaking ceremony of the Raffles American School (RAS) in Nusajaya, yesterday.

Also present were Johor Education deputy-director, Md Hasidin Zaini, Raffles Education Corporation chairman Chew Hua Seng and RAS founding superintendent Dr Rob Mockrish.

Apart from RAS, the other institutions are Newcastle University, Southampton University, Netherlands Maritime Institute of  Technology, University of Reading, Marlborough College, Johan Cruyff Institute Malaysia and Yayasan Khazanah – Primary and Secondary Trust Schools.

RAS will be developed on an 18.21 hectare land at a cost of RM250 million with the first phase expected to be completed by 2014.

RAS will offer an American syllabus from pre-school to grade 12 with facilities including Olympic size swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts and football field. — Bernama
