PKR affirms putting up candidate in Lubok Antu

KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will not abandon Lubok Antu when it comes to fielding candidates in the coming parliamentary election.

PKR state vice-chairman See Chee How said Lubok Antu is one of the seats which they could win.

As it is now, the branches there will most likely recommend to the party political bureau to nominate Nicholas Bawin Anggat because he has been working hard on the ground despite several defeats in elections.

See, who is Batu Lintang assemblyman, said this when rubbishing a rumour that Bawin may withdraw his nomination to let voters choose either the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, who is most likely the incumbent MP William Nyallau Badak from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), or Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) candidate.

Speculation is rife that SWP would be fielding its president Larry Sng judging from the intensity of his campaign activities in Lubok Antu of late.

After the speculation was played up by the media, neither Sng nor his loyal supporters denied it.

PRS has also played down Sng’s ambition by stating that Lubok Antu constituents, who are almost 90 per cent Ibans, will not likely vote for a non-local, let alone a non-Iban.

They also said that the Ibans in Lubok Antu were not like the ones in Pelagus, whom Sng represented as assemblyman when he was a member of PRS and also for another few months when he was partyless.
