KUALA LUMPUR: While the Barisan Nasional (BN) is busy championing the people, the opposition is engrossed in organising rallies to discredit the country, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the BN government was more committed in assisting and solving the problems faced by the people.

“Even the prime minister goes down to the ground to help fishermen, flood victims and taxi drivers. This is what we have been doing – protecting and championing the people, not to cause hardship to them by holding demonstrations.

“Why they (the opposition) need to hold a rally when they can’t even look after their own states. I hope the people realise this and make the correct choice in the next general election,” he told reporters after opening a twin kindergarten at Taman Wilayah Selayang here yesterday.

Shafie said there was no need for the opposition to hold a rally for they were at liberty to speak up on any issue in Parliament.

In his speech, he said a number of Community Development Department (Kemas) kindergartens nationwide would be upgraded to high performance kindergartens in stages with the teaching module being fine-tuned.

“The teaching module will comprise story-telling, elocution, dances, communication skill, and sports, he added. — Bernama
