KINABATANGAN: A total of 46 houses were built in Kampung Balat under the Village Resettlement programme through a RM5.2 million allocation from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.

The new settlement has facilities such as water, electricity generator and a comfortable environment, free of the floods the villagers faced annually.

The village has a population of 320 and 33 of the 46 families are hardcore poor.

“Most of the houses in the village used to be flooded by the Kinabatangan river every year,” said Kampung Balat Village Safety and Development Committee chairman Awang Alik Asman to Bernama.

The keys to the new houses were presented by Kuamut assemblyman Masiung Banah and the Ministry’s Regional and Land Secretary, Mohd Shafie Jusoh, at the village yesterday.

Awang Alik added that so far two resettlements had been implemented in the Kuamut state constituency, including Kampung Alitang, involving 35 houses and 100 in Tongod. — Bernama
