TelBru’s High-Speed Broadband to be available in more areas soon

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: TelBru has achieved a milestone in delivering its ‘latest and much anticipated high-speed broadband to 1,000 homes as former e-Speed users begin migrating to the new service at locations which are High-Speed Broadband ready, Borneo Bulletin reported.

According to a press release, the three major areas providing the ‘Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH)’ connection are Madang, Gadong and the Central which in turn, connects homes in Berakas, Pulaie, Gadong, Kiulap, Subok and Bandar Seri Begawan.

The Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) infrastructure was first introduced in the Sultanate as an upgrading telecommunications infrastructure initiative by TelBru. In early 2012, the Panaga National Housing Scheme went through the first pilot project with 365 homes now online.

The new broadband technology is delivered over fibre optic, which will eventually replace the outdated copper cables in the existing infrastructure. Fibre Optic has a much higher-bandwidth carrying capacity and hence, will be more efficient and reliable. It will thus offer a better experience for Internet users. This infrastructure is also capable of supporting services that require high bandwidth.

Apart from residential areas, TelBru is also focusing on connecting commercial areas such as Times Square, the Airport Mall and the BT Complex, which will be developed into a High Speed Broadband commercial zone.

Lim Ming Soon, TelBru’s Chief Marketing Officer in a statement said that the 1,000 mark is an exciting time and definitely a milestone in terms of delivering High Speed Broadband to customers. However, this accounts for only a small portion of the work yet to be done to connect other areas.

“We will see more homes (aside from Madang) connected this year. With the mentioned commercial zones, TelBru is looking forward to delivering High Speed Broadband to all businesses in the mentioned commercial zones towards the end of the year.”

Mr Ming Soon also highlighted that the fibre infrastructure will pave the way for TelBru’s upcoming high bandwidth application and services in the near future.

This will more importantly improve customer experience and high-speed access. With increasing demands of over the top services in the vertical market, high bandwidth and the need to meet those demands are inevitable.

Some of the benefits in using high-speed broadband would include faster Internet experience including streaming high definition videos, file download and upload in seconds for quicker back-up or sharing with others and improved business services such as video conferencing and other high definition contents.
