Government compensates 99 people affected by two projects

MIRI: The government through the Land and Survey (L&S) Department yesterday presented land compensation to 99 affected people for two development projects here.

The projects are a single carriageway link road from Pujut Interchange to Jalan Tudan/Kuala Baram Miri and ground reservoir at Bukit Pajek, Package Water Treatment Plant, water intake and access road in Lapok, Tinjar, Baram.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan presented the compensation to the affected people at L&S Department Miri office.

Total compensation for the 3.1 km single carriageway link road project amounted to RM9,159,520.20.

RM250,510 in compensation for acquiring 15.4750 hectares of land for development projects in Lapok, Tinjar was paid to affected individuals.

Awang Tengah who is also Minister of Public Utilities, in his earlier address said the government ensures the land acquisition is in line with the development programme.

The land acquisition has to be go through various stages such as site approval, investigation and survey; evaluation of compensation; and preparing allocation for the land compensation.

The effort is to ensure all development projects planned by the government such as roads, bridge, school, hospital and government office are implemented smoothly.

Lands were acquired for the implementation of basic infrastructure to provide a better quality of life to the people.
