Plantation worker walks out a free man

SIBU: An oil palm plantation worker charged with the murder of a woman three years ago was yesterday ordered by the High Court here to be discharged and acquitted.

Kong Chiong Jhong, in his 30s, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The charge said he murdered Helen Timam at a back lane behind a hotel in Tiong Hua Road at about 11am on Aug 9, 2009.

The prosecution called 11 witnesses to testify against Kong who was represented by David Kuok.

Justice Supang Lian presided over the case.
