LAHAD DATU: A motorcyclist and his pillion rider who were allegedly riding against the traffic were killed after they collided head-on with a trailer lorry along Jalan Pantai here on Monday night.

Both victims, whose identities were not immediately known, suffered broken collar bones and died on the spot.

It is believed that they were heading towards Jalan Pantai from the town when their machine collided with the trailer lorry around 9.40pm.

District police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mat said the lorry was travelling in the right lane and could not avoid the motorcycle that was riding against the traffic flow.

“They were killed on the spot and their motorcycle was severely damaged,” said Shamsudin, adding that their bodies had been sent to Lahad Datu hospital for post-mortem.

Shamsudin added the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
