Facebook page to share crime information

KUCHING: The Malaysian Mothers Against Crime Facebook page will share information on crimes, especially among women.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) women’s wing national vice-president Voon Shiak Ni said the people should visit the page, which would put on record crimes and evidence needed by the police to investigate, monitor and track criminals.

“Some victims did not choose to bring their cases to the police station because it’s a tedious process and also the negative perception that the police report cannot help them nail the culprits,” she told a press conference yesterday.

“We hope that this page will serve as a platform for all to share their experiences, views and thoughts for all of us to work together to deter the crimes. Lastly, we call on all to protect ourselves against crimes and to share information with the public and also the police. Together, we can help bring down crime incidents in the hopes of creating a safer place for all of us.”

According to her the public does not need to know figures and statistics on the crime rate.

“It is not useful to us. We want a safe environment and we do not want to be a victim of these crimes,” she said.

The Malaysian Mothers Against Crime Facebook page was launched by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail recently.
