KUCHING: Sarawak Kabaddi Association (SKA) is keen for the state team to do well in the coming Sukma XVI in Kuala Lumpur. The expectation is high for an improved performance compared to the team’s maiden outing in Sukma 2011.

Speaking to The Borneo Post, SKA vice-president Ramachandran Ramasamy said that there is reason for optimism as the team is now more mature and experienced.

“We are a better team now and I think we can do well during the coming Sukma. We have trained hard for this,” he elaborated.

Ramasamy also revealed that the current shadow team will be competing at various tournaments in Peninsular Malaysia starting next month.

He explained that the team need more exposure and Peninsular Malaysia is the best place for that.

“We will finalise our final team somewhere around April. The exposure trip is also crucial for our selection process,” Ramachandran added.

20 players (10 boys and 10 girls) will be selected to represent Sarawak for the coming Sukma.

The Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) is expected to finalise their decision on the number of sports events that Sarawak will participate in today (Jan 16).
