KUCHING: SUPP Youth secretary-general Wilfred Yap will continue to highlight issues and matters that affect the public for SUPP to reconnect with them.

A press release issued by SUPP Youth yesterday said: “In line with the aspirations of ordinary citizens and concept of ‘People First, Performance Now’ introduced by our prime minister, SUPP Youth will continue to use every avenue at its disposal to apply for more infrastructure development funds to benefit the public.”

It also said when Yap went to inspect road resurfacing work at 10th Mile Bazaar recently, he was alerted by SUPP members to the low water pressure faced by hawkers at the 10th Mile Market.

Concerned, Yap accompanied by Councillor Lim Eng Kok immediately went to the market to see the hawkers.

According to one of the hawkers, low water pressure in the pipes causes water from the tap to slow down to a trickle during peak periods, which inconvenienced the hawkers. “The problem was traced to a leaking water meter at the market. It could also be due to a leaking or burst underground pipe at the T Junction leading to the market at 10th Mile Bazaar led to the problem,” Yap said.

He promises to bring the matter to the relevant authorities after discussing it with the hawkers concerned.

During a routine inspection of the 10th Mile Bazaar, Yap nearly fell into a drain when he stepped on a rusty drain cover that gave way at the T junction leading to the market at the 10th Mile Bazaar.

“I urge the council to replace the rusty cover immediately to prevent any untoward incident. Some innocent passers-by could be seriously injured if they step on it,” he said.

Aside from that, shopowners at the 10th Mile Bazaar informed Yap that the pedestrian traffic lights at the T-junction were not working. Yap promised to bring the matter up to the relevant authority.
