SARIKEI : SMK St Anthony chess masters grabbed the lion’s share of titles in Sarikei’s Inter School Chess Competition hosted by the school from Jan 16 till 18.
In the team events, the school won the Boys’ Under 18, Boys’ Under 15 and Girls’ Under 15 titles while SMK Tong Hua won the Girls’Under 18 category.
SMK Tong Hua finished second in the Boys’ Under 18 competition while SMK Tinggi finished third.
SMK Tinggi and and SMK Tong Hua finished second and third respectively in the Boys’ Under 15 category while SMK Kai Cung and SMK Tinggi came in second and third placing respectively in the Girls’ Under 18 category. SMK Tinggi and SMK Tong Hua were the first and second runners-up respectively in the Girls’ Under 15 category.
In the individual events, SMK St. Anthony won two titles through Chen Zhin Houng in the Boys’ Under 18 category while his fellow team mates Yii Kie Kwang and Lim Fu Hwi settled in second and third placing respectively.
Hii Wee Yin won the Girls’ Under 15 title after defeating Law Yee Qiao of SMK Tinggi while Evernmess Lau of SMK St. Anthony finished third placing.
Anderson Wong won the Boys’ Under 15 category after beating Chan Cheng Ann of SMK St. Anthony while Leong Xin Yu of SMK Kai Chung won the Girls’ Under 18 after beating Tiong Yong Nga from SMK Tong Hua.
SMK St. Anthony principal, Sali Sumoh gave away the prizes to winners while the best players will represent Sarikei in the coming state-level Inter School Chess Championship to be held in Miri.
