15 evacuated in flood-hit Kota Marudu

KOTA MARUDU: Fifteen people, including six women and four children, were evacuated from their homes at Kampung Morion and surrounding area amidst a flash flood believed to be brought on by persistent rain.

State Fire and Rescue Services Department public relations officer Senior Assistant Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramin said the flood was believed to have started since 8am.

“We have deployed our personnel to the affected areas to evacuate flood victims. .

“Fifteen people are currently taking shelter at the Morion community hall and they will return to their homes once the water level has subsided,” he said when contacted yesterday.

The evacuees comprised five men, six women and four boys, said Affendy, adding that the age and relationship of the victims were not immediately determined.

No casualty or missing person has been reported and the Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station continued to monitor the flood situation, he said.

The flood has also affected several major roads in Kota Marudu, including the Kota Kinabalu-Kota Marudu-Kudat traffic intersection.
