RM235,000 collected for Gaza Emergency Fund

KOTA KINABALU: Almost a quarter million ringgit has been raised in Malaysia so far to to be distributed as humanitarian aid for war victims in Palestine, said Deputy Home Minister Dato’ Lee Chee Leong.

“As of today, it is estimated that RM235,000 has been collected for Gaza Emergency Fund. The collection will be presented to the Perdana Gaza Peace Fund (PGPF), to be channelled to the people of Palestine,” he said when  when speaking at the 1KDN Peace Wave Gathering and Gaza Emergency Fund (Sabah State level) Launching at RELA Training Centre in Gayang, Sulaman yesterday.

The event jointly organised by all the departments and agencies under the Home Ministry was part of a nationwide initiative to promote awareness on “Gelombang Keamaan Sejagat” (Global Peace Wave) and to express protest against Israel’s cruelty in Gaza.

At the event, Lee also announced that Skuad Muda KDN, a voluntary corp for youth from departments and agencies under the Home Ministry, now has 1.14 million members.

Out of this figure, almost 10 per cent or 103,385 members are from Sabah.

“I am very happy with the setting up of the Skuad Muda, especially in Sabah and I am confident that this movement will be a catalyst in creating a wave of volunteers not just among the younger generation but among all Malaysian, regardless of their race, religion and creed.

“The Home Ministry sympathizes with what is happening in Gaza. I am confident that band together our little voices would be loud enough to be heard, to state our protest against the oppression of Zionist Regime on the people of Palestine.

“This effort to create ‘Global Peace Wave’ is vital in getting our message about the humanity crisis in Gaza across to the world,” he said.
