Project to standardise goods’ prices launched

SIBU: National Prices Council under the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) launched the Standardising of Goods’ Price Project at SK Sg Baoh Ulu, Dalat yesterday.

Officiating at the function, Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said the project aimed to achieve Key Result Areas through several price standardising methods.

“Among them are distribution of necessities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, and flour; standardising of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) price; and standardising of community drumming price such as petrol and diesel
through community supply method.

“Our government has allocated RM144.5 million to have this project implemented throughout the state.

“And this project will focus on the people in the rural areas,” she pointed out.

According to her, Dalat first adopted the project in 2009 in Sg Kut, and has now spread to several places
in the district such as Kampung Kebuaw, Sg Baoh, Sg Baoh Chelum, Sg Baoh Burak and Sg Narub.

“Today, we have it in villages in Oya such as Kampung Senau, Kampung Penat, Kampung Kuala Tengah and Kampung Teh,” she added.

She said among the objectives of the project was to identify a more efficient distribution system and to find a more cost-effective method for the distribution of necessities, and to coordinate the prices of retail goods and fuel such as petrol, diesel and LPG in the rural areas.

The Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development also said the project would ensure that controlled items such as flour, sugar, cooking oil and so forth would reach the rural
folk.

“It is also to ensure the folk would have constant supply of fuel such as petrol and diesel,” she said.
