12 locals busted for gambling activities

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN:Some 11 local men and one local woman were caught by personnel of the Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) for allegedly being involved in computer-based gambling activities, Monday night, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The successful arrest came following a public tip off whereby police personnel conducted a raid on a residence in Kampong Rimba, where the activity was believed to be taking place.

In addition to the suspects, nine sets of computers were also confiscated.

The suspects are being investigated for committing offences under Section 4(a) of the Common Gambling House Act Chapter 28, which carries a punishment of a one-year imprisonment term and a fine of up to $20,000; and Section 6(1) Common Gambling House Act, Chapter 28, which carries a punishment of six months imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000.

The RBPF has conveyed its appreciation over the information provided by the general public, which led to the successful raid, and would like to remind the public to continue cooperating with the department in the future.
