KAPIT: Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi called on PTAs to help the school management so the school can achieve academic excellence.

“The success of the school is a collective responsibility of the PTA, school management, teachers, Education Department and political leaders alike,” he said when presenting grants to two parent-teacher association (PTAs) in Song district.

Alexander handed the PTA of SK Nanga Nyimoh in Sungai Katibas a RM10,000 grant, received by its headmaster Bita Jungan. The school has 17 teachers and 104 pupils.

A RM15,000 grant for the PTA of SK Nanga Beguang was received by its headmaster Jemat Muyan. It has 17 teachers and 74 pupils.

The grants among others were for the two PTAs to carry out their activities for the year.

The presentation coincided with the presentation of RM100 schooling aid for students in Song district at Dewan Kenyalang of SMK Song on Monday morning.

Under the programme some 3,247 students from 17 primary schools and two secondary schools in Song district received the government aid of RM100 each amounting to RM324,700.

Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan spoke earlier at the function, advising parents on their role in the education of their children, and in inculcating good moral values and discipline in them.

He said a teacher’s role was to educate students while the government provides school and food.

“Often government assistance as in providing the daily food for students go unnoticed so parents need to know this,” Blikau said.

Among those at the function were Harry Bruce representing Song District Officer; principal of SMK Song, Limok Shem; Alysis Samat representing Song education officer; principal of SMK Katibas, Patrick Nojey; Senior Assistant (Student Affairs) of SMK Song, Abg Ahmad Abg Abd Wahab; Lucy Meling of Song Education Office, parents, teachers, 500 students and guests.
