Woman fined for drunk driving

TAWAU: A 27-year-old woman was fined RM1,500 in default one month’s jail by a Magistrate’s Court here for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Gwee Li Ling pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act for the offence committed on March 24 last year at midnight.

She was stopped at a roadblock at Kuhara Road and her blood alcohol level exceeded 107mg from the permitted level. At the same court, Pang Ja Bing, 21, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act for possession of 0.07 gramme of methamphetamine and was fined RM1,950, in default, four months’ jail. He was detained on Dec 1 last year at 5pm at Amber Park during Ops Tapis. Two packets containing the drug was found on the floor of the passenger seat.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 15 months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for theft and possession of a folded knife.

Magistrate Edward Paul meted out the sentence on Rusdi Anis who pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapon Act 1958 for possessing the weapon.

The prosecuting officer told the court that the accused stole a Samsumg Galaxy Note belonging to Sulaiman bin Muhiddin, 29, at Restoran Selera Tanjung, St Patrick Road about 10.15pm on Dec 20, last year.

The victim was having a drink with his friends when the accused came and snatched the cellular phone and fled. The victim gave chase and caught the accused who was handed to the police.

The folded knife was found on the accused during a body search.
