Workers jailed for stealing prawns from employer

TAWAU: Two prawn farm workers were sentenced to five months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for stealing prawns from their employer.

Iskandar Ismail, 33, and Ramlan Esang, 30, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides ten years’ imprisonment or fine.

Both accused stole 97.57 kilograms of prawns on Nov 20 last year between 6.50am to 7.20am at Syarikat Asia Aquaculture (M) Sdn Bhd prawn pond.

Their job was to carry and deliver prawns and they took advantage when the weighing clerk was not looking or answering a call by hiding the prawns in ice.

They would sell the prawns at the market or at Mile 3 Apas and divide the money equally.

The same court sentenced a 20-year-old local man to 20 days’ jail for stealing five bottles of shampoo.

Mohd Fazley Faizal pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides ten years’ imprisonment or fine.

The accused was caught stealing five bottles of Sunsilk shampoo worth RM60 about 6.20pm on Jan 2 at Century Market, Sabindo Square Street.
