More than 63,000 Sarawak youths join Home Ministry’s youth squad *new!

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Home Ministry’s Youth Squad has attracted 63,129 youths in Sarawak, aged between 18 and 25, to register as members, said its deputy minister, Datuk Lee Chee Leong, here today.

He said they were part of 1.14 million members registered with the squad so far since it was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on May 25, 2012.

“I am confident that this squad, made up of youths, will become a catalyst for volunteers from various races and religion,” he said when officiating the ministry’s state-level 1M4U Youth Squad programme and 1KDN Peace Wave Assembly at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) campus here.

He said the squad’s membership in Sarawak comprised 45,814 from Rela, Civil Defence Department (9,312), National Anti-Drugs Agency (7,643), police (165), Police Undergraduate Voluntary Corps (48) and members of the Prison Department (147).

“This squad will give Malaysian youths a chance to serve and contribute to the community,” he added. –Bernama
