TUARAN: Police here have open two investigation papers on the incident involving a group of people protesting in front of the Tuaran police headquarters on Jan 21.

District police chief DSP Zaharuddin Rasip said the investigation papers were opened under Section 4 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 against a group of people who were involved in the gathering, and under Section 323 of the Penal Code against police personnel who were alleged to have used force while detaining two men on suspicion of committing an offence at a cyber outlet in Telipok prior to the arrest.

Zaharuddin said the police was able to disperse the group in accordance with the law without any incident and have now called some of those involved to give their statement at the police headquarters to assist in the police investigation.

The incident allegedly took place on Jan 21 at around 2.40 pm when a group of about 30 people gathered outside the Tuaran police headquarters to stage their dissatisfaction following the arrest of two men at a cyber outlet in Telipok the week before.

It was believed that the protesters were family members of the two men together with some members of the public who made the claim, which is yet unconfirmed, that police have used force when detaining the two men.
