MARUDI: Community leaders here should support the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in Baram parliamentary constituency in the coming general election.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said it was imperative that BN wins the seat so that they would continue to enjoy development and progress, which only the BN government can bring.

He told them not to be swayed by the sweet talks and promises of the opposition, saying if they were voted in the people would tend to lose as there would be disunity in the rural community.

Ngau gave this advice when he spoke at the New Year gathering and launching of the Telang Usan Welfare and Social Committee at a restaurant here on Sunday night.

He also told community leaders and rural folks there not to be taken in by news spread by Radio Free Sarawak (RFS), which was only interested in spreading lies and hatred against the BN government and its leaders.

On the formation of Telang Usan Welfare and Social Committee, he said it was mooted by him and some PBB members in Telang Usan to assist the needy there.

Later, he presented RM47,000 in MRP grants to 13 village development and security committees (JKKK) and association in Telang Usan.

Among those who spoke at the function was Baram district officer Joseph Belayong.

Present were Marudi information officer Joseph James and local councillors.
