‘Quality reciters could emerge from Tahsin Al-Quran programme’

KUCHING: The Tahsin Al-Quran programme can potentially create prestigious and quality qari and qariah (reciters) who will continue to make the state stand out in the field on the national and international level.

Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi proposed that the Al-Quran teachers on a village level be identified and officially registered, with the cooperation of the Persatuan Guru Al-Quran Bahagian Kuching (PGQBK).

“With PGQBK’s cooperation, we can formally recognise them as Al-Quran teachers in their respective areas, thus helping them systematically increase the number of youngsters who can read the Al-Quran,” he said when closing the Tahsin Al-Quran 2013 course at the Women’s Bureau recently.

The course was organised by PGBK together with the Sarawak Islamic Council, Sarawak Islamic Religious Department, Sarawak Department of Islamic Development and Women’s Bureau.

The course facilitator included the international qari champion 1999 Ustaz Che Yahya Che Daud from Kelantan, who oversaw the 100 participants.

In the same ceremony, Dr Abdul Rahman also announced a contribution of RM8,000 to the PGQBK funds to run their activities this year.

He also suggested that Al-Quran recitals are held in other areas to ensure that the recital quality is maintained and new talents are added to their numbers.

Meanwhile, PGQBK treasurer Yahya Ibrahim said that the association would continue holding improvement courses to increase the quality of Al-Quran recitals.

Yahya added that new Al-Quran classes would begin soon at Demak Laut under the guidance of the association.
