Two snatch theft cases reported in space of 30 minutes

KUCHING: Two snatch theft cases that happened in the space of less than 30 minutes of each other were reported yesterday.

It was understood that both victims incurred more than RM10,000 in losses, in terms of cash and electronic gadgets.

The first case was reported to have taken place at Jalan Stampin Tengah, where a 28-year-old marketing executive was snatched of her handbag by an unknown man wearing a helmet when she arrived home at around 11.30am.

The victim could not do anything as the incident happened so fast.

The suspect sped off the scene of the crime with another male accomplice on a motorcycle.

Among the lost items were two smartphones worth some RM4,500, an iPad worth RM2,300, personal documents including three pieces of cheques worth RM100,000 and RM500 in cash.

The second case saw a 24-year-old accountant fall victim to a snatch thief behind a medical centre at Mile 3, around 12 noon.

According to the victim, she had just parked her car at the area when an unknown man opened the front passenger side of her car and ran off with her handbag.

The suspect was reported to have sped off from the scene on a motorcycle ridden by a male accomplice.

Apart from personal documents, the accountant also lost RM5,000 in cash, a smartphone and a cellphone. Police are investigating both cases.
