Ukrainian women charged with prostitution

KOTA KINABALU: Two Ukrainian women were separately charged with prostitution in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Viktorria Kachurovska, 24, and Liliia Daoudy, 27, brought before court registrar Danny Buaya, were charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The duo who are part-time interpreters and still studying, were caught for allegedly committing the offence at the rooms of a hotel in Luyang at 4.25pm on Jan 21.

Danny who presided as a magistrate, set today for both the accused to enter their plea and they were denied bail.

Counsel Alex Lee represented Kachurovska and Daoudy.

In a separate case, local Chung Saw Xong, 38, faces a charge of keeping a stolen LCD television worth RM1,500.

Danny fixed today to re-mention the case for plea.

The accused was alleged to have kept the stolen item at a quarters at Jalan Maakot in Kolombong, Inanam at 2.30am on January 23.

The offence was framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which is punishable by a jail term of up to five years and a fine, upon conviction.

He was ordered to be held in custody under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code, pending disposal of his case.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali prosecuted.
