W Group donates 38 lion heads to various bodies

KOTA KINABALU: Property developer, the W Group Sdn Bhd, donated 38 lion heads worth about RM60,000 to 19 Chinese Associations and Cultural Organizations from the west coast areas in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year 2013.

The company also held a dotting of the lion eyes ceremony at its show gallery in Lintas yesterday, which was performed by directors Datuk Tony Wong Chen Nam and Johnny Wong. Also present was Datin Margaret Wong.

This ceremony also kicked start W Group’s 2013 charity drive, which is the company’s annual event for the past 10 years.

Those who received the lion heads were Kota Kinabalu Hakka Association, Persatuan Penganut Agama Buddha Fook Tet, Putatan, SJK(C) Yick Nam School, Inanam, Pertubuhan Kebudayaan dan Sukan Tiong Hua, West Coast Shaolin Wushu Association Sabah, Persatuan Penduduk Rumah Murah Kepayan, Dragon Art Wan San Lion Dance Troupe, Sekolah Menengah Kian Kok KK, Kelab Sukan Dan Rekreasi Kg. Tatahan, Inanam, Persatuan Penganut Buddha Rey Tsang Shih, Kolombong Lion Dance Troupe, Nan Bang Lion Dance, Ket Chin Lion Dance Organization, Persatuan Karate Koi KK Sabah, Jawatankuasa Penduduk Jalan Kiansom, Persatuan Penganut Goddess of Mercy Kudat, Hua Teck Lion Dance, Unicorn Art Sport Club and Sabah Hong Lian Association’s Dragon and Lion dance Club.

Tony, the Executive Chairman of the W Group, (on behalf of the late Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Kwok) presented a RM5,000 donation to the Agape Care & Crisis Relief Services Association of Sabah.

This donation is to help the association buy necessities such as medicines, medical equipment. A representative from Agape, Ooi Kong Eow received the cheque on behalf of the association.

Johnny, Managing Director of W Group presented a RM7,000 donation to the Persatuan Perkhidmatan Taska Sabah which is a non-governmental organisation tasked with the training, guidance and monitoring of pre-school teachers for children aged between 0-4 years old throughout Sabah.

The donation is to help the teachers get the necessary trainings before they are send to rural area to set up teaching centres. The Taska was represented by Datin Nelly Munang.

Tony and Johnny also handed over the W Group “Give Back” banners to its Charity Drive committee to start on their new charity project, which is building a house called the “Halfway Home Sabah” located at Pagalunggan, Pensiangan area.

This project is aimed to help patients, especially pregnant mothers, who are in labour travelling to the hospital from faraway rural villages to be able to stop at the halfway home for medical backup assistance or to be on standby mode before going into labour.

The W group “Give Back” Charity Drives will be on their first mission this Sunday (February 3, 2013) to visit 7 needy homes and 1 old folks home simultaneously. Donation worth more than RM90K will be donated during this Charity Drive.

The identified homes are San Damiano Hostel in Kiulu, Don Bosco Children Home, Bundu Tuhan, Bundulu Toboh Tambunan , Mother of Divine Grace Hostel San Edmond Kota Belud, St. Theresa Hostel Kota Marudu, St. Maria Goretti Binaong Keningau, Emmanuel Home Kudat and Holy Family Senior Citizen Home Papar.

“These needy homes were built to provide shelter and meals for children, under privileged folks from remote areas and it relies heavily on the generous financial sponsorship from the kind general public and its monthly expenditure is about RM5,000-RM6,000. We hope the public will step forward with more generous contributions in order to ease their burden,” W Group said.
