BSP strikes new Milestone

KUALA BELAIT: Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) has achieved yet another milestone by safely delivering the first gas from its newly installed Danau-Bubut project, ahead of the promised schedule, while also managing to stay within the budget, Borneo Bulletin reported.

BSP announced this yesterday in a press release, which revealed that the project managed to safely deliver its first gas on December 1, 2012, three months ahead of schedule and B$10 million under budget.

The Danau-Bubut project, located in shallow water depths of 20 metres some 10 kilometres off the Tutong coastline, is BSP’s first in developing tight gas comprising two newly installed platforms and gas export via multiphase pipeline to the Onshore Compression Plant within BLNG.

“This project is both technically and economically challenging given the complex subsurface geology requiring the application of technologically-advanced well concepts to meet multiple objectives of appraisal and development, as well, as facilities challenges,” reads the statement.

“Danau-Bubut is a testimony of BSP’s ability to develop this type of difficult fields, that opens the doors to other similar opportunities made possible with a strong focus on hydrocarbon maturation and project delivery,” said BSP.

This, they said, was enabled by the new ‘Production and Investment Agreement’ that was inked between BSP, the Royal Dutch Shell and the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam earlier in January 2012.

“At the peak of activity, the project involved about 2,000 BSP staff along with workers of our business partners. It is also in line with our commitment towards the country’s Local Business Development directives as more than 85 per cent employed were Bruneians.”

The success of the Danau-Bubut project is made possible with the strong partnership between BSP and its stakeholders and is considered another significant achievement for the company’s proven track record of world-class project delivery.

BSP also said that its safe and successful delivery of projects built in Brunei is in full support of Brunei’s Vision 2035.

“Equipped with the best people, planning, resources and technology, BSP is focussed on sustaining the country’s growth by providing ‘Energy for life… fuelling Brunei’s future’,” they added.

Speaking to the Bulletin on the project, BSP’s Managing Director, Mr Ken Marnoch said, “It’s another in the long line of Brunei Shell’s projects in developing Brunei’s oil and gas resources to support the country’s energy development and we are really proud of everyone that has worked together; all of the contractors and Brunei Shell staff for safely producing gas and LNG across the world.”

Other projects under BSP that are already under construction include the Champion Water flood Phase B2/3, Bulan-Bulan and Osprey.

Asked on how the latter two are going, Marnoch said, “We are progressing with the construction which is very visible in KB, and we are progressing safely.

“It’s great to see how we continue to find and develop Brunei’s oil and gas further.”
