KAPIT: The distribution of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M2.0) for the Kapit District this year is expected to go smoothly.

Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit said the distribution is expected to be completed by Feb 28.

“We’ve learnt from previous experience and we’re very confident we’ll do it on time because for Kapit we’re divided into two areas — N54 Pelagus which is handled by the district office and N55 Baleh, which is handled by resident’s office,” he said during a briefing on Thursday.

Elvis said in view of Chinese New Year, recipients from the Chinese community would receive their payment vouchers first.

“In Kapit there are only some 300 Chinese eligible, so we are very confident that we can hand over the payment vouchers before the celebration.

“For those in the rural areas, they needn’t come to town to collect the payment voucher because we’ll deliver to their respective areas. The rationale is we don’t want them at the end of the day to spend the money on fuel, lodging or food to come to town,” he said.

The distribution schedule is Feb 4 and Feb 7 — Kapit Civic Centre, Feb 13 — Rumah Daniel Dian, Feb 15 — Rumah Pilai, Feb 16 — Rumah Jelaini and Feb 19 — Rumah Pasang at Nanga Ensilai.

“Based on local practice, we allow representatives — next of kin — to collect the payment vouchers for those too old or handicapped to be mobile or are bedridden.

“But make sure we believe the one who helps to collect is genuine because we want him to be responsible. Based on the last BR1M, there are so many so we’ve pre pared a letter for them to sign in front of me,” added Elvis.

He said eligible applicants will receive notification from the Treasury Department directly as will those whose applications were turned down.
