PBB Tasik Biru agrees no direct BN candidate

KUCHING: PBB Tasik Biru has cited the case of former Pelagus assemblyman Larry Sng to support Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement on Sunday that there will be no BN direct candidate in the coming 13th general election (GE13).

Despite holding several government positions after he was sacked for gross insubordination by Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), a component of state Barisan Nasional (BN), Sng’s application to become a direct BN candidate in the last state election was rejected by Barisan Nasional (BN) outright. He was, therefore, not re-nominated as BN candidate to defend the Pelagus seat.

The division’s chairman John Nyigor said Sng’s case was a clear example of what BN’s principle was all about.

He said he was in total agreement with Muhyiddin, the deputy BN chairman, that candidates must be members of BN component parties.

“These candidates shouldn’t be someone from outside BN or those who claim themselves BN-friendly but not a member of any BN component party. It is simple as that, and for Mas Gading, its MP Datuk Dr Tike (Lafe) can’t go against that principle. The seat (Mas Gading) belongs to SPDP (Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party) and it is up to the party to nominate their winnable candidate for the seat,” said Nyigor.

When Sng was in PRS, he was appointed assistant minister in the Chief Minister’s Office and later as the assistant minister for industrial development but he was not re-nominated as BN candidate in the last state election.

Believing that Mas Gading was and will always be BN’s stronghold, Nyigor said: “Personally I believe that SPDP or BN will continue to win in Mas Gading, unless backstabbing and sabotaging happen.”

Thus, he called on all BN supporters in the constituency to give their full support to the SPDP/BN candidate in the coming polls.

He also assured of PBB Tasik Biru’s full backing to the BN candidate there.

PBB deputy publicity chief and PBB Opar chairman Datuk Peter Minos on Wednesday said he also fully agreed with Muhyiddin’s statement.

“If for example decisions are made merely to suit political conveniences of the day this will surely generate sooner or later misunderstanding, even suspicion,” he added.

Minos said SPDP should be given the prerogative to nominate its candidate for Mas Gading and all parties including Dr Tiki and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian, should respect the party’s decision.

On Nansian’s call for the ‘right formula’ in the selection of candidate for the constituency, Minos asked: “What formula that Nansian wants to suggest?”

“The right formula is that no candidate from outside BN component parties and the component parties have the right to choose their own candidates and the Prime Minister has the final say on the choice of the candidates,” he added.

Minos reminded BN leaders, members and supporters of possible sabotaging in the constituency.

SPDP has nominated Salcra deputy general manager Anthony Nogeh Gumbek to replace Dr Tiki as BN candidate in Mas Gading in GE13.
