Rumours are baseless — PKR potential candidate

KUCHING: Willie Mongin, PKR’s potential candidate for Mambong in the fast-approaching general election, yesterday brushed aside talks that he is no longer interested to contest.

He said there was ‘no such thing’ as not being interested for he fully subscribed to the policies of PKR in particular and the struggles of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in general.

“Those who fan such rumours are merely hatching a political plot to destabilise PR’s chances of winning Mambong,” he said in his short messaging service (SMS).

“Or it could be the work of someone with a personal interest.”

Recent rumours had it that he had abandoned his dream of contesting in Mambong as he had been ‘bought’ over by the BN.

Willie said he would not leave PKR after having worked so hard.

“I’m sorry … my soul do not have a price tag. In God’s name, I pray that I will continue to do my level best for the people,” he asserted, adding that he would never become a BN ‘tool’.

It is believed that PR had decided to leave Mambong to PKR, although there has been no official word yet.

Meanwhile, DAP Siburan member, Mangan Ngandok, said the party was in ‘standby mode’ and would field a candidate in the event that PKR decided to pull out.

He said this was to ensure that the BN would not win any seat uncontested.

Last October, Mangan said some people had predicted that he would be contesting in Mambong, which is currently held by Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit, who is also Deputy Tourism Minister.
