KUCHING: Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas) hosted a friendly bowling match with the media on Friday to thank the media for their support and co-operation towards the various programmes held by the company last year.

“This competition is held to foster better relations between the media and company staff.

The media has played an important role in helping Bernas to promote its corporate social responsibility programmes and the importance of the rice industry in Malaysia and Sarawak,” said Beras Corporation Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Mohd Kamaluddin Mohd Effendie.

At the same time, Bernas also launched the Bernas Photography Competition Sarawak which is divided into two categories – public and media.

The competition is on from Feb 1 to May 20 with the theme ‘Sawah, Padi dan Beras’ (paddy field, paddy and rice).

Mohd Kamaluddin said the competition is important in educating the public on the importance of the rice industry, especially food security.

The competition also aims to create an opportunity for youngsters to personally drop by the paddy field to take their best photo, which in turn will expose them to the lifestyle of paddy farmers.

Those interested in participating can obtain further information by clicking ‘Like’ on the ‘Pertandingan Fotografi Bernas-Sarawak’ page in Facebook.

Top winners of both categories will take home RM1,000 cash, certificate and printer; RM700 cash, certificate and printer; and RM500 cash, certificate and printer for second to third prize respectively.

Consolation prizes of cash and certificate will be given to 20 winners. At the event, Bernas also donated RM2,000 to Kuching Division Journalist Association (KDJA).
