KOTA KINABALU: The Chinese community supports Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak because of his transformation programmes and 1Malaysia concept, according to Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

Liew, who is also Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president, said the claim by the opposition that the Chinese community did not support Barisan Nasional (BN) was not true.

“This is a tactic by the opposition to try to confuse the Chinese community,” he said during walkabout by LDP leaders at Gaya Street here yesterday.

Liew said that when the candidates list was announced and the people knew who were the candidates in the team under Najib’s leadership, they would know transformation was taking place and that it would be a new team.

Liew is confident that the people would fully support the Prime Minister, saying Najib’s transformation programme had been effective in terms of boosting the nation’s economy, stability and prosperity.

“In terms of economy, we can see that our neighbouring countries are suffering from technical recession, including developed countries such as the United States, but Malaysia has not faced any economic problems.

“This is due to the strong foundation under the Prime Minister’s transformation programme.”

“We can see here at Gaya Street how prosperous our country is, where we can conduct our daily life in harmony, and all the people gather around to celebrate Chinese New Year.

“We can see the different races here, and this is a form of prosperity that we enjoy all this while.”

On the walkabout at Gaya Street, Liew said the activity has been held since 20 years ago when the party was established.

Among LDP leaders present were deputy president Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin, Youth leader Chin Shu Ying, chief publicity officer Albert Kok Yuk Ken, supreme council members, and divisional chairmen.

“I wish to take this opportunity to wish Happy Chinese New Year and Gong Xi Fa Cai to all the residents in Kota Kinabalu and Sabah.”

LDP leaders also visited Lido market, as well as a mobile service centre in Damai yesterday.
