TAWAU: All communities regardless of their racial and religious background have been urged to continue to maintain their unique culture of diversity in the country and promote it for future generations.

Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, who made the call, said it is important for the people of the nation to uphold the prevailing unity among them and maintain the harmonious living environment.

“Such measures should continue to be shared by our future young generations. The culture of diversity provides an opportunity for the communities to develop closer friendship without any distinction between each other,” he said at the dragon and lions dance performance held at the community hall here on Saturday night.

The show was organised by the Tawau Federation of Chinese Associations.

“In fact, culture diversity is a threat in some countries which led to racial unrest. I hope therefore, Malaysians especially the Tawau community, would continue to be united and maintain the harmonious environment throughout this new year,” Tawfiq added.            According to Tawfiq, the government is doing its best to overcome the problems faced by the nation.

Meanwhile, Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) president Datuk Ismail Mayakob also hoped the community here will maintain the harmonious living environment and think positively against any challenges they are facing.

Earlier, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman contributed computers to Puteri Umno Tawau Division for use at the 20 district polling centres of the Tawau parliamentary constituency.
