KUALA LUMPUR: Discover a world of rewards as Malaysia Airline Systems Bhd (Malaysia Airlines) becomes a full-fledged member of the oneworld alliance, one of the world’s top three airline alliances.

Enjoy exclusive oneworld privileges and services across 800 destinations in 150 countries as you earn and redeem miles across the network.

Winner of multiple awards, the oneworld alliance brings together some of the most distinguished names in the airline industry – airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7 Airlines, and around 20 affiliates including Austria’s NIKI, American Eagle and Dragonair.

Oneworld was founded in 1999 by American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas. The slogan for Oneworld is “Oneworld revolves around you”. As of October 2012, it has a global seat capacity of 12.2 per cent.

Since late 2002, Oneworld member airlines have developed common specifications across their engineering and maintenance (E&M) activities, reducing costs through bulk buying and parts sharing. In addition, there is also increased efficiency by aligning their policies and procedures and to share best practice. It was also the first airline alliance to introduce interline e ticketing across all member airlines’ network.

Visiting Malaysia is to be made easier and better value for international travellers with the launch of the new Visit Malaysia by the oneworld airline alliance – offering savings of up to 60 per cent on flights within one of Asia’s most attractive and diverse countries.

The latest offering in oneworld’s market-leading range of alliance fares are already available, as Malaysia Airlines, one of Asia’s leading airlines, joins oneworld, which aims to be the first choice airline alliance for frequent international travellers.

Oneworld’s new Visit Malaysia pass offers great value travel for visitors to the country throughout the entire Malaysia Airlines’ domestic network.

Malaysia Airlines serves 16 destinations across Malaysia’s peninsular mainland and islands, including Sabah and Sarawak – from skyscrapers of Kuala Lumpur to the wooden houses on stilts in remote village, from the tropical beaches of Langkawi and Penang to the jungle gateways of Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

For oneworld, the addition of Malaysia Airlines and its Kuala Lumpur hub give the alliance an important connecting point in Southeast Asia. Previously, the alliance’s only other hub presence in the immediate region was at Hong Kong, which is the base for oneworld member Cathay Pacific. The addition of the new destinations added via Malaysia Airlines will extend the alliance’s coverage to 842 destinations in 156 countries.

Malaysia Airlines group chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said “Malaysia Airlines’ addition to oneworld means that it will be easier than ever before to visit our beautiful country from all over the world.

“The oneworld Visit Malaysia pass is designed to encourage visitors to sample the world famous Malaysian Hospitality throughout our nation – from the capital’s Petronas Twin Towers to the tea and rubber plantations of the Cameron Highlands, the world-class hotels and golf courses of Langkawi and Penang, the snorkeling and scuba diving resorts on the East Coast and the orang-utan hideaways of Borneo.”

The oneworld Visit Malaysia pass must be purchased in conjunction with an international flight to Malaysia with any oneworld member airline. It can include just one Malaysia Airlines’ domestic flight or more, at prices that offer savings of up to 60 per cent on Malaysia Airlines’ regular published fares.

Oneworld offers one of the most extensive ranges of alliance fares available, enabling customers to fly multiple airlines with attractive savings on regular published fares, whether they want to fly right around the world, or explore one or more continents or regions.

So, plan your travels around the world conveniently. After all, oneworld network covers over 800 destinations worldwide. These include Visit passes for Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia and New Zealand, Europe and Japan.
