TAWAU: The people should continue to support the Barisan Nasional (BN) to ensure the continuity of good government programmes, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

Pairin called on the people to give their full support to the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the upcoming 13th General Election.

All good programmes would be carried out continuously for the benefit of the people, he said.

“In fact, the federal government is very concerned about the needs of the people in terms of development, especially in the rural areas throughout the state. The government is striving to take care of any weaknesses in bringing development and resolving any problems faced by the country.

“Some quarters are accusing the BN of having done nothing which is not true. Thus, the people should have positive thinking towards the government,” Pairin told the media after visiting Tanjung Market here yesterday morning.

Touching on the Sri Tanjung state seat, Pairin disclosed that the BN government is always concerned about the needs of the residents there. It would be good if Parti Bersatu Sabah was given consideration to contest the seat in the upcoming general election to serve the constituents better.

All the leaders from BN component parties were striving hard to go to the ground to listen the people’s voices and problems, said Pairin who is also Infrastructure Development Minister.

He hoped the people could understand the good efforts of the BN government.

Asked about the Kubota power plant, he said it was expected to be operational on February 8 and generate 20 per cent of extra power for the Tawau community.

Another power plant would also be built in Balung which could provide additional 30 Megawatt of power supply to the district here, he added.

Pairin noted that the contractor would soon repair the damage caused by landslide near the entrance to Tawau Airport.

Meanwhile, Assistant Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Pang Yuk Ming also said allocation had been ready to repair the collapsed road link to Jalan Sin On Tiku and Jalan Hotspring Tiku here and hoped the construction could be completed in this year.

Also present were Pairin’s wife Puan Sri Genevieve Kitingan, Deputy Chief Minister cum Human Resource and Information Technology Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Haji Tawfiq Datuk Haji Abu Bakar, Sri Tanjung Village Development and Security Committee leader Fung Len Fui and Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) president Datuk Ismail Mayakob.
