KUALA LUMPUR: Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) kicked off its outreach programme for 2013 with a series of networking sessions in the Middle East and the United Kingdom recently.

Connecting Malaysian professionals overseas with companies driving Malaysia’s economic transformation, these sessions provide them the ideal platform to explore the scope for collaboration and professional opportunities available in Malaysia.

“This year, in addition to strengthening our linkages with Malaysians abroad such as those in the UK, we will continue to expand our outreach programmes and leverage on social media tools to make more of our diaspora aware of the richness and availability of career opportunities at home,” said its chief executive officer Johan Mahmood Merican.

On Feb 2 this year, TalentCorp held a Professionals Networking Dinner at the Lancaster Terrace in London which linked more than 120 Malaysian professionals with representatives from Malaysia’s leading companies in key economic sectors such as Financial Services, Hospitality & Tourism, Oil & Gas, and Electrical & Electronics.

“These included Maybank, SP Setia and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA),” TalentCorp said in a statement yesterday.

It said the session also provided the diaspora the latest updates on Malaysia.

Several student engagement sessions wil also be held in the UK this month – at King’s College, University College London, Imperial College, University of Warwick, University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield, University of Edinburgh and the London School of Economics.

Earlier in mid-January, TalentCorp met Malaysian professionals working in Muscat and Doha through networking events organised with the Malaysian embassies in Oman and Qatar respectively.

TalentCorp’s first engagement with the Malaysian diaspora in these two countries enabled them to learn more about TalentCorp’s work and the myriad opportunities available to them to participate in the country’s economic transformation.

Armed with a greater understanding of the profiles of the Malaysian professionals in Oman and Qatar, TalentCorp plans to return to the Middle East in March together with Malaysian companies in Healthcare, Construction and Oil & Gas to connect the diaspora to professional opportunities in these sectors. — Bernama
