SANDAKAN: The Public Service Commission (PSC) has eased the requirements to allow more candidates to be interviewed, said its deputy chairman, Datuk Segarajah Ratnalingam.

For this purpose, he said PSC would reduce the value of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) to between 3.2 to 3.25 to allow more applicants to be called for interview.

“The number of candidates for Management and Professional Group has increased from 15 to 30 candidates per daily interview while for Support Group it has increased from 30 to 40 candidates, thus enabling more candidates to attend the interview,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at the PSC Career Carnival at the community hall here yesterday, Segarajah said that screening of applicants with low CGPA in their bachelor of post-graduate degree had also been eased to enable them to attend the interview on the condition that the applicant apply for the relevant position and meet the requirements of the service scheme.

Commenting on the Career Carnival organised by Public Service Commission in Sandakan, he said that this is the first career programme held in the state for 2013. The selection of Sandakan as the first place to host the career carnival is based on the commitment of the commission to ensure that the services provided are closer to society regardless of state, regional, ethnic and religious factors.

Apart from that, it is the commission’s mission to get the best talents to fill positions in the civil service.

“I believe Sandakan has the best talent which can be brought into public service that would eventually contribute to the country.

“This career carnival has a significant impact in line with the changing times as public now wants to get the services or information in a simple, fast and accurate way,” he said.

Such carnival can be a one-stop centre for students and job seekers to obtain employment or training that are appropriate to their qualifications and competence from agencies involved during the carnival, he added.

For the record in 2012, 100,824 job seekers in this state had registered with PSC and 4,595 were already appointed. In Sandakan, 9,567 job seekers registered with PSC and 379 were appointed to work with the civil service.
