SERIAN: The first batch of the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) recipients from Serian parliamentary constituency will be receiving their vouchers tomorrow.

In announcing this yesterday, Serian MP Datuk Richard Riot Jaem said presentation of the BR1M cash vouchers to about 1,500 recipients in the first batch will be held at Dewan Suarah Serian.

“The first batch comprises mostly recipients from the Chinese community who will be celebrating the Chinese New Year but there will also be those from various other races who are staying nearby,” he said.

He said those who will be receiving their vouchers tomorrow have already been informed and after they have collected their vouchers, they can go and cash them straight away at the CIMB branch here.

Riot, who is also Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, told reporters this at the launch of Ops Selamat (safety campaign) at Serian district police headquarters here yesterday.

He disclosed that this time around, 30,000 eligible applicants will be receiving their vouchers compared with 22,000 recipients in the first phase last year.

“There will be more recipients this time because it will also include eligible bachelors who will be getting RM250 each,” he said.

He said although there will be more recipients this time it was their target to clear everything within two weeks.

“We are confident that the process this time will be smoother with the experience and lesson we have learned when giving out the first BR1M,” he said.
