Indonesian maid sent to jail for theft

PETALING JAYA: An Indonesian maid was sentenced to a total of 12 months’ jail by the magistrates’ court here yesterday for theft and entering Malaysia without a valid permit.

Magistrate K B Elena Hong Tze Lan handed down the sentence after Julanti Soleh, 33, pleaded guilty to both charges.

She was sentenced to six months’ jail on each count, to be served concurrently from the date of arrest, last Jan 29, and to be deported after completing her sentence.

Julanti, who was unrepresented, was charged with stealing a handphone, a watch and Korean currency worth RM7,000 at a house at Changkat Bukit Utama, Damansara here about 9am last Jan 26.

The second offence was committed at the Bukit Utama Condo guard house, Persiaran Bukit Utama, Damansara here at 12.30pm last Jan 29.
