KUALA LUMPUR: Passengers in Klang Valley can now do online taxi booking under the management of Sunlight Unicablink via iPhone and Android-platform smart mobile phones.

This is made possible following the launch of an integrated online taxi booking system and global positioning system (GPS)-enabled taxi by Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar here Wednesday.

Sunlight Unicablink executive director Choi Wei Yee said the system would enable the taxi company to provide a more convenient, faster and efficient service.

Speaking to reporters after the launching in Bukit Bintang, she said the GPS-enabled taxis could locate passengers and navigate the road easily.

“Currently we have around 3,000 taxi drivers under our company and 1,000 taxis have been fitted with this system. We hope to fit another 1,000 by the end of this year. Taxi drivers pay RM180 monthly for the system,” she said.

She said by deploying the system, it could help boost the taxi drivers’ income by as much as 50 percent as they no longer need to drive around aimlessly looking for customers or compete with other taxi drivers. –Bernama
