The National Police admitted on Wednesday that they had failed to identify the participants in a sex tape spread online last year that allegedly featured lawmaker Karolin Margret Natasha, with authorities blaming the low quality of the video, Jakarta Globe reported news.
“We have explained about this since October last year — our investigators have also conveyed the result of the investigation to the House of Representatives’ leader — that we were having difficulties in the investigative process, especially the sex tape because of its poor quality,” National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said on Wednesday.
Boy said the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) had also reported the inconclusive results of the investigation to the House’s Ethics Council after that body asked police to find out whether or not the woman in the sex tape was Karolin, an Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician.
“The process of identifying the face of the woman in the sex tape could not be carried out properly because of the angle of the tape, it was not enough to be identified scientifically, unless the tape was in high definition so we could analyze it from different angles,” he said.
The sex tape was first posted on the website www.kilikitik.net in April 2012 and quickly went viral. Karolin, who is the daughter of West Kalimantan’s governor and a member of House Commission IX, has repeatedly denied allegations that she co-stars in the tape. She claims the widely circulated video was fabricated and released for political purposes.
The tape and its distribution potentially violated both the Law on Pornography and the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions.
