SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has instructed its lawyer to file a notice of appeal against the Shah Alam High Court’s decision in dismissing its application to strike out a suit by 711 consumers over the state government’s free water scheme.

Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim told this to reporters after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting here today.

The High Court, had on Monday, dismissed with cost the state government and Abdul Khalid’s application to strike out the suit filed by the consumers concerned on Sept 11 last year.

The consumers are demanding almost RM500,000 in compensation for not receiving subsidised water as promised by the opposition pact in its election manifesto during the 2008 general election.

They named Abdul Khalid, the Selangor government and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) as defendants. — Bernama
