Self-employed man on drug charge released on bail

KUCHING: A self-employed man charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs was released on RM6,000 bail in one surety pending further mention of the case on March 15.

No plea was taken from 39-year-old Pang Choo Ngee as the chemist report was not yet ready.

He appeared before Magistrate Maris Agan yesterday.

He allegedly had in his possession 11.44gm MDMA, 56.80gm Ketamine and 24.80gm Nimetazepam. The offences were committed at a workshop store in Jalan Kampung Sudat about 11.30pm on Jan 30.

The charges are read under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a jail term of not less than two years and not exceeding five years, and whipping not less than three strokes but not exceeding nine upon conviction.

Lim Lian Kee represented the accused while Inspector Yunus Sahak prosecuted.

In the same court room, a 31-year-old lorry driver was fined RM1,000 in default a month in jail after he pleaded guilty to overloading.

The accused identified as Lu committed the offence at Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapa here at 9.41am on Dec 27 last year.

He was convicted under Section 19(1)(b)(vi) Commercial Vehicles Licencing Board 1987.

Lu settled the fine.
