KUCHING: The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM) is targeting to have 90 per cent of its tax collection made via the electronic payment (e-Payment) system by 2015.

Though payment of taxes using the electronic method is still considerably low in the country, last year’s tax collection saw an increase of 18.53 per cent compared to only 1.53 per cent in 2011, said LHDNM deputy chief executive officer (tax operation) Datuk Mohammad Sait Ahmad.

“This significant increase proves that tax payers are aware that e-Payment is very simple, easy, safe and saves time,” he said when launching the LHDN Electronic Payment Service Promotion 2013 here yesterday.

Sait explained that tax payers and employers can opt to pay their income tax, ‘Cukai Keuntungan Harta Tanah’ (CKHT) and ‘Potongan Cukai Bulanan’ (PCB) via the e-Payment system either through LHDNM’s official portal at www.hasil.gov.my or through its bank tax collection agents that offer such services via ATM, cash deposit machines and telephone banking.

“LHDNM has currently appointed 12 tax collection agents that included banks and Pos Malaysia,” he said, adding that the appointment of these agents was aimed at expanding the tax payment methods to tax payers.

“It is also to provide tax payers with the convenience of exercising their responsibility to the country and in turn improve revenue collection in the country.”

Sait also noted that in addition to e-Payment, LHDNM also offers other electronic payment methods such as e-PCB, e-Data PCB and STAMPS (Stamp Duty Payment).

Joining him at the event were LHDNM state director Datin Josephine John, LHDNM Revenue Collection Department director Mahmood Daud and LHDNM Payment Services and Information Department director Azizol Ahmad.
