75-Year-Old local fined for invalid licence

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A 75-year-old local man was fined $200 in default or serve one week’s imprisonment after he pleaded guilty before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s court yesterday to an offence of operating a water taxi without a valid licence, Borneo Bulletin reported.

Acting Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal PD Hj Kefli gave three months grace period to Hj Tuah bin Sadim to settle the fine.

The defendant was stopped by Marine Police conducting an operation in the Brunei River on July 13, 2009.

At about 8am, officers found the defendant operating a water taxi named Juwita around Sg Lampai on an expired licence.

DPP Dk Hazirah Pg Mohd Yusof prosecuted the case.
