KUANTAN: Police are satisfied with the drop in the accident rate in the Op Selamat II road safety campaign held in conjunction of the Chinese New Year (CNY) festive season.

Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid said the campaign also showed effectiveness in combating house-breaking cases which decreased this CNY festive season.

He said compared to the Ops Sikap 25 during the last Chinese New Year celebration, the Ops Selamat II recorded a positive development as the accident rate and house-breaking cases dropped to a better level.

“Overall the Ops Selamat II implementation is good and I will announce the full accident statistics and house-breaking cases as soon as the campaign ends this February 17,” he told reporters after holding a dialogue session with Kampung Sungai Ular residents here yesterday.

Earlier, Salleh accompanied by Bukit Aman traffic chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof and Pahang Chief Police Datuk Sharifuddin Ab Ghani, had distributed pamphlets on raid safety to motorists at Km30 Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman in conjunction with the operation. — Bernama
