KUCHING: Kuching Amateur Swimming Association (Kasa) is calling on former state swimmers to become its volunteer coaches.

“Without volunteers we could not give our swimmers so much time for training and competition,” the association secretary, Sylvia Lau told The Borneo Post during the daily training session held at State Aquatics Centre of Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi yesterday.

“Not many people know that our successes the past six years are linked to our volunteers’ base,” she said while paying tribute to its volunteer coaches namely Anthony Kong, Nadia Kho and Joey Voon.

According to her, all of Kasa volunteer coaches, helpers and officials over the last 12 months had worked together in taking up the challenge in training and producing champion swimmers.

“I therefore take this opportunity to ask all parents to consider whether they are able to help the committee by undertaking, or to work with others on, tasks that help in the everyday running the club,” she said.

“With over 200 swimmers and multiple training sessions… there is never ending cycle of tasks that need to be completed,” Lau lamented but lauded swimmers’ parents and family members who play the valuable role of supporting the club.

She revealed that the association is hoping to develop and host their own open swimming meet which require a lot of hard work and a lot of volunteers as well.

“If we went ahead and undertake this commitment…we would need the help from volunteers.

“This will bring benefit to the club with additional income that would help consolidate the financial position of the club,” Lau enthused.
